The Antlers: "Hospice"

By: Joe

After deciding to skip out on my art history class in favor of lying in bed and watching shit on hulu, I've decided to write a quick review on the album Hospice by The Antlers. Even though this record was released some time ago in August, I feel as if I have to review it. A few months ago I went to a friend and asked “I want to buy a CD. What do you recommend?”. Without hesitation he told me about The Antlers. Of course the next question I proceeded to pose to him was “What do they sound like?”. His response is the most fitting description of this album. If you were going to commit suicide, this is the record that you would be playing. Yes, I know, its a tit dramatic, but it is nonetheless fitting. Come on. The record's about a man's relationship with a dying woman. Not only is the concept of the record already a tear jerker, the music itself manages to be as depressing and beautiful as the narrative itself. The music itself sounds a little post-rocky at times yet still keeps a traditional pop song structure. Since I really don't feel like writing anymore I'm just going to give you people some advice. Buy this fucking album, you will most definitely not regret it.
